Iles Norwalk Chapel is dedicated to serving families in Norwalk, Cumming, Warren County, the south side of Des Moines, and West Des Moines. It is a bright and inviting facility perfect for services and gatherings. Originally established in 2013 as O’Leary Funeral and Cremation Service, it became part of the Iles family in 2022.
From the very beginning, the building was carefully transformed into a funeral home, and thoughtful design choices still influence how families experience the space today.

The Norwalk Chapel was developed from a former daycare center, and the renovation was approached with great care and intention. Instead of lowering the ceilings, they were opened up, creating an immediate sense of space and light as families enter.
The lobby is both open and cozy, featuring a two-sided fireplace that adds warmth without being overly formal. Seating areas are thoughtfully arranged to foster conversation and quiet reflection, while the abundant natural light throughout the building gives it an airy, peaceful atmosphere.
Arrangement and planning spaces are located just off the main lobby where you’ll find a cozy conference room that feels more like a home than a typical office.
A kitchen-style table sets the stage for relaxed conversations, making it comfortable to connect. There’s also a small kitchenette equipped with a sink and dishwasher, adding a touch of convenience to the space.
For planning discussions, a television monitor is available to display options and keep everyone on the same page.
The fireplace adds warmth, with its second side opening into this room, enhancing the overall sense of comfort and flow.
A sliding barn door provides a direct link to the chapel, allowing families to step in and explore the space while discussing service options, something that many find helpful, especially if they’re new to the building.
Additional arrangement conference space is located throughout the building to accommodate busy days and provide flexibility.
The chapel at Norwalk is spacious and filled with light, featuring vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and stone accents that create a warm, contemporary vibe. Video screens at the front showcase tributes, photos, and recorded elements, while a modern sound system ensures everyone can hear clearly during the service.
Thanks to its size and layout, the chapel can comfortably host larger gatherings without feeling cramped. Like all Iles locations, the Norwalk chapel is equipped with state-of-the-art sound systems, video tribute capabilities, live streaming, and service recording. This ensures that families can share the experience with loved ones who are unable to attend in person.
Norwalk boasts one of our families’ favorite reception spaces among Iles locations, designed specifically for gathering and connecting with loved ones. The reception room is large and filled with natural light.
Guests can easily see who is arriving and leaving, which helps families stay connected during the gathering.
A large monitor facilitates video tributes or family-provided videos to play during the reception.
A full kitchen supports catered meals and family-provided food. The space includes a refrigerator, oven, and ample counter space, making it easy to host a full reception without leaving the building.
Beyond offering funeral and celebration of life services, the Norwalk facility has a long-standing tradition of hosting non-funeral events for the community. This practice continues today, with available space for civic organizations, family gatherings, and community activities.
