We had my mother’s funeral at Dunn’s Chapel last month. Also my grandfather had his funeral there about twenty years ago, and the funeral director Amy Sweet Sorensen managed both of their funerals.
In fact, when mom got sick with cancer, I reached out to Amy, and she came to visit our family at mom’s hospital room to help us plan mom’s final services. Mom picked out the songs, and she chose a beautiful pink casket from the catalog that Amy showed her in the hospital room.
Then when mom finally passed away, I was glad that we knew exactly what mom wanted. Amy did a Wonderful job of planning everything. She guided me through the process of planning the visitation, church funeral service, the burial, and the lunch afterwards. It was a sad experience, but the nice funeral was a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

I want to express my sincere appreciation for the exceptional care Iles Funeral Home provided during my brother’s funeral. Our family was facing urgent health issues and needed to move very quickly, and the team handled every detail with efficiency, discretion, and deep respect.

They made sure the arrangements honored my religious tradition, and they guided us through each step with calm, compassion, and professionalism. Their work brought comfort not only to me, but to my entire family — who were cared for by Iles in years past. That continuity of kindness has meant so much to us.

They were absolutely wonderful for my MIL’s service! We could not have asked Shawn for more. Everything was perfect. He helped a difficult time comforting! And mom looked beautiful!

I truly cannot say enough good things about Iles Funeral Home and the people who helped us care for my dad. When you're grieving, there are SO many things you don't realize you'll have to think about. The biggest thing I appreciated was the amount of detail they handled for us so I didn't have to worry about everything myself. The facility is beautiful, clean, spacious, and welcoming, but it was the level of personal care that really stood out.

Tallie did an amazing job helping me preplan for Dad. She even came to us, which was incredibly helpful because Dad was in a wheelchair and on oxygen. It meant less stress and exhaustion for him and made everything easier for our family. She wasn't pushy at all and showed genuine empathy throughout the process.

And Joe, the funeral director I worked with... where do I even begin? My brain was extremely foggy and slow to connect the dots, especially with my grieving brain, and Joe was unbelievably thorough. He explained everything in great detail, answered every question, and never once showed annoyance. He always showed me kindness, empathy, patience, and even humor, which I greatly welcomed because that's how I am too, even through grief.

As a planner, I honestly felt like I didn't have to worry about anything. Every detail was handled. And I mean EVERYTHING.

They thought through things I never would have considered: everyone entering and leaving, the order of cars to the ceremony, how Dad would be escorted, even the Freedom Riders. There were so many details behind the scenes that I didn't have to carry myself, and that was an enormous gift.

Dad was also a veteran, and they made all of the burial arrangements incredibly easy. Since the VA ceremony is limited to about 15 minutes, they helped us plan a beautiful ceremony at Iles as well. It was absolutely beautiful.

One thing that really showed the level of personal care was the memorial printing. We wanted an MSU "S" for his urn, but because of licensing, they couldn't use the traditional logo. Joe came up with an alternative using an "S" with Dad's picture and part of his obituary so we could still have that connection.

Joe kept telling me how great the printing was, and as a professional graphic designer, I thought, "Yeah, okay... I'll believe it when I see it." 😂 BOY, WAS I WRONG. The printing was phenomenal, with beautiful design and a gorgeous raised finish, but most importantly, it reflected HIM. The MSU stadium and our favorite photos made it feel so incredibly "Dad." They even had a blanket made in the same fashion. And I am PICKY about design. 😂

The visitation setup was another thing that went far beyond what I expected. I gave them a bunch of Dad's things for display. They didn't just put everything on a table. Everything had a place and it was intentional. Smaller items were thoughtfully arranged, his Quilt of Valor was displayed with his Army things, and they even used a simple mannequin to display his old Air Products jacket. It felt like they were helping us tell the story of who Dad was. It was beyond words.

The flowers were easy, too! Dad's favorite was Boesen's, so I went to the flower shop and picked exactly what I wanted. Because they have an arrangement with Iles, the bill was sent to the funeral home. One less thing for me to worry about.

Iles helped my family when my mom passed away in 2011, and when it came time to care for Dad, I trusted them again. I can honestly say I would trust them with the care of any of my loved ones.

If you're looking at funeral homes, for me it wasn't just the beautiful facility. It was knowing I could walk in with an overwhelmed, grieving brain and have people patiently explain everything, anticipate details I hadn't thought about, respect what mattered to our family, and care for Dad as though they personally knew him. Kudos to the people behind the scenes, even those I may never have met.

Iles gave us the space to grieve instead of making us worry about logistics. And that is something I will never forget. THANK YOU!

Theee was no “salesperson” pitch toward certain services or burial products. Several options were discussed. The many details you may not realize were explained in detail.
