Understanding Cremation
To begin with, it is probably easier to describe what cremation isn’t. Cremation is not final disposition of the remains, nor is it a type of funeral service. Rather, it is a process of reducing the human body to bone fragments by way of application of intense heat. The end result is cremated remains consisting of small particles of bone fragments. The common term society uses is ashes which is misleading because the consistency of cremated remains differs from what people think of as ashes.
Iles Funeral Homes owns and operates our crematory facility which is physically located at Dunn’s, our Iles Family Funeral Home located on Grand Avenue. At this facility, we observe strict procedures designed to lend honor and dignity to the deceased as well as ensure the highest legal and ethical standards.
Cremation is a very personal choice. You must determine what form of preparation for final disposition you desire. Whether you choose earth burial, entombment, scattering, or storage, it is wise to consider the emotional needs of your survivors. By including your family and loved ones in your decisions, you may avoid the possibility of adding stress to an emotional time for your survivors. Towards this end, we wish to help you create a personalized tribute that balances the wishes of the deceased with the needs of the living, for which many times cremation can be too sudden and final. Allow us to work with you to find a tribute cremation service that offers value and meets needs.
Whether you are considering cremation or would just like more information on the subject, we have a brochure that is designed to give you more information about the types of services available and other choices you have. Also, our prearrangement staff and funeral directors are available to assist you in making these important decisions.
