Fern Marie Foster, 86, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Madrid Home in Madrid. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 30, at the Sanborn Memorial Chapel in the Madrid Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Madrid.

Fern was born on February 18, 1926, in Madrid, Iowa, to Stough Leroy and Sally Virginia (Zachary) Crabtree. She was united in marriage to Vernon Perry Foster and they made their home in Slater. In addition to raising her family and being a homemaker all her life, Fern volunteered countless hours at the Madrid Home and served on many committees. She enjoyed helping others, being outdoors, gardening and watching birds. Fern was a former member of Church of God in Madrid, for more than 60 years. Most of all, Fern loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Darrell (Pat) Foster of Orange City, FL, Bonnie (Bob) Moses of Perry, IA, and Ronnie (Sharon) Foster of Slater, IA; one sister, Faye Latham of Sun City, AZ; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Fern was preceded into eternal life by her parents; beloved husband, Vernon Foster; two brothers, Harold Crabtree and Gerald Crabtree; and four more siblings at infancy.

The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, at Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid.
