Scott McCracken loved Minnesota wilderness lakes, Chicago Cubs, Iowa State Cyclones and black cats. He played a wicked game of bridge.

The son of Dwight Taylor McCracken and Mary Esther Scott McCracken, Scott was born in St Joseph, MO April 8, 1928. He died at home Tuesday, April 24, at the age of 84.

Scott is survived by his wife of 5 years, Barbara Albrecht McCracken of Urbandale; sons, Scott B. McCracken (Molly) of Pinckney, MI, Robert G. McCracken (Jane Collison) of Urbandale and Richard C. McCracken (Judy) of Mesquite, TX; and daughter, Janet S. McCracken of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Elizabeth Nichols McCracken and his brother, Glen Taylor McCracken.

Scott's grandchildren are Katherine A. McCracken of Pinckney, MI, John M. McCracken of Atlanta GA, Daniel C. McCracken of Fitchburg WI, Sarah C. McCracken of Pittsburgh PA, Daniel Manrriquez of Mesquite TX, and Jeffrey S. McCracken of Dallas, TX.

He graduated from Iowa State College (ISU today) where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Hired by Economy Forms right out of college, he went on to become the Chief Engineer and retire after 41 years.

As a father, Scott attended hundreds of baseball, basketball, and softball games as well as dozens of choir concerts. As a husband, he was a great friend and companion.

A memorial service will be at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, Saturday, May 5, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, an offering to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is recommended.
